Joshua White is a trial lawyer who specializes in complex civil litigation. He has won every case he has tried, including multiple jury trials in state and federal court while serving as lead counsel. He has successfully argued appeals before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the California Court of Appeal. Joshua has extensive experience in an array of subject matters including civil rights, constitutional law, contracts, torts, immigration, elections, labor and employment, and unfair competition.

Before joining Conrad & Metlitzky, Joshua spent ten years as a Deputy City Attorney at the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office, where he served in a variety of roles. He spent five years on the Trial Team, where he defended the City and City employees sued in state and federal court. Each of Joshua’s jury trials resulted in complete defense verdicts, saving the City millions of dollars.

For nearly his entire tenure with at the City Attorney’s Office, Joshua was a member of the Affirmative Litigation Task Force, where he sued businesses exploiting vulnerable communities. For example, Joshua served as lead counsel in a lawsuit against a company that was extorting suspected shoplifters by threatening them with prison unless they paid the company hundreds of dollars. Joshua won summary judgment, obtained a permanent injunction, and negotiated a substantial settlement. As a Task Force member, Joshua served as an instructor for Yale Law School’s nationally renowned San Francisco Affirmative Litigation Project. Joshua also served on the City Attorney’s Office Ethics and Elections Team, where he defended the City in elections-related litigation and served as general counsel to several City departments.

Joshua earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from UCLA, and his J.D., cum laude, from Hastings College of the Law. Joshua clerked for the Honorable Susan R. Bolton in the United States District Court in Phoenix, Arizona, and the Honorable Richard C. Tallman on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Joshua has been a guest lecturer at several law schools including Yale Law School, Berkeley Law, and Hastings College of the Law.

Before law school, Joshua was a ski instructor in Vail, Colorado.
