Warren Metlitzky is a trial attorney and a founding partner of Conrad & Metlitzky. A former Assistant United States Attorney, Warren specializes in complex civil litigation and has extensive experience as a first-chair trial and appellate lawyer representing businesses and individuals in state and federal courts. He has successfully tried high-profile jury cases to verdict, has won arguments before the Ninth Circuit and the California Court of Appeal, and has handled high-stakes civil matters from prelitigation investigations and press responses through dispositive motions, trial, and appeal.
Warren’s litigation experience covers a diversity of subject matters, including contracts, fraud, copyright and trademark, class actions, employment discrimination, First Amendment, defamation and anti-SLAPP litigation, professional malpractice, civil rights, constitutional law, and public corruption. Throughout his career, Warren has represented clients in a wide array of industries, including technology, health care, sports and entertainment, transportation and infrastructure, and law enforcement, as well as individual CEOs, politicians, and other high-profile defendants.
Warren earned his B.A. from Yale University and his J.D., cum laude, from University of Michigan Law School, where he served as an associate editor for the Michigan Journal of Law Reform and defended criminal trials in county court. After law school, Warren clerked for the Honorable Chief Judge Marilyn Hall Patel in the Northern District of California. After his clerkship, he practiced intellectual property and complex commercial litigation in San Francisco at the law firm of Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin (now Arnold & Porter). He then spent nearly a decade with the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office handling civil jury trials and appeals in high-stakes cases that frequently received significant attention from the press and public. The County Counsel’s Association of California recognized Warren for his appellate work with its annual Litigation Award.
Warren then joined the Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of California. He was also appointed as a Special Attorney to the United States Attorney General. At the Department of Justice, Warren led a working group on civil litigation with Silicon Valley companies over Stored Communication Act and electronic privacy issues.
Warren is a leader in the San Francisco legal community and enjoys collaborating with colleagues and mentoring future trial lawyers. He serves as Secretary for the San Francisco Bar Association’s Litigation Section and is a frequent speaker for continuing education programs. Warren coaches the UC Berkeley School of Law’s McGeorge Ethics Competition mock trial team and guest lectures in trial advocacy classes at local law schools. He is a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco and the Federal Bar Association.
Prior to law school, Warren taught middle and high school math in Los Angeles and Palo Alto public schools. Warren lives in San Francisco with his wife and two children, and an assortment of motorcycles.
